Facts at a Glance 2013


Since 1890, the Rescue Mission has been reaching out to the poor and needy in Utica, Rome and the Mohawk Valley. The Rescue Mission assists individuals in overcoming homelessness, hunger, addictions, and disabilities through a life centered on Christ.
 
The organizational Mission Statement is: “The Rescue Mission of Utica is a Christian ministry unconditionally endeavoring to assess and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of people coming for assistance.”
 
Thanks to the generous support of our community in the past year, God blessed the Rescue Mission by giving us the opportunity to:

•       Serve 130,662 hot meals to homeless and underprivileged individuals. Nearly 2,200 of these meals (with turkey and all the trimmings) were distributed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

•       Distribute 1,661 food boxes to shut-ins and underprivileged families. This is a 14.8% increase over 2012, and represents an additional 81,249 meals!

•       Provide 16,879 meals through our community meal program.

•       Provide 18,777 nights of care to men and women in our Enriched Living Center, our mental health residential program. This represents a 99% utilization rate in the Enriched Living Center

•       Provide 10,357 shelter nights of care to 615 homeless men at our Emergency Shelter, where 85% of the homeless found permanent housing. At or beyond capacity 101% of the time.

•       Provide 6,219 nights of care to 697 individuals in our Addictions Crisis Center.

•       Provide 4,601 nights of care to Parker House Aftercare Residents.

•       Provide 3,756 nights of care to men living in our SRO (single room occupancy housing).

•       Hold over 152 chapel services.

•       8,370 attendances at Bible Study, Devotions and other spiritual enrichment opportunities,

•       20 individuals made faith decisions for Christ. Two men were baptized.

•       19 men graduated from the Parker House (6-9 months) Aftercare Program.

•       Provide academic and job skills training to 283 men and women at our Morris Learning Center. Cumulatively, these students earned 63 certificates in areas such as computer literacy, business math, reading skills, resume writing, interviewing skills and GED preparation. Three earned their GED.

•       Assist nearly 640 adults with financial management in our Representative-Payee Program.

•       Distribute over 14,580 pieces of free clothing to 1,961 men, women and children in the community, including Mission residents.

•       1,211 individuals volunteered in 2013, giving 13,323 hours of service.

•       Received donated food valued at $330,879.

•       Received donated clothing and other items valued at $109,459.
