Gourmet Guys to the Rescue' Raises $20,000
Bill Badolato's Seafood Bisque stole the show at the 20th Annual Gourmet Guys to the Rescue, grabbing Best of Show as well as First Place honors in the appetizer category. It was a recipe the family enjoys at home, "so I thought I'd offer it up today for Gourmet Guys," said Badolato, who works at Adirondack Financial Services.
Over 200 people got to taste the recipes of some 31 celebrity chefs Sunday afternoon at Hart's Hill Inn, helping to raise $20,000 for "our life-changing programs" at the Rescue Mission of Utica, Executive Director Rev. Bill Dodge announced.
Veteran "Gourmet Guys" Jack Eisenbach and Stu Card combined their talents to offer an Hungarian Goulash -- a Jewish cookbook recipe "that was closest to what my mother made when I was a kid," Eisenbach said. The people liked it, too, awarding them First Place in the entrée category.
Grant Roser of Roser Communications claimed he "put a lot of love into making" his Tiramisu and said: "Who doesn’t like dessert?" The people agreed, awarding the first-time celebrity chef the First Place medal.
Second Place medals went to:
Dave Dudajek of The Observer-Dispatch for his Potato Leek Soup. Dudajek has been a Gourmet Guy chef for every year except last year when he had to attend a wedding in Maryland. "My daughter had the recipe…and said it was good…I thought it would be easy," but with all the prep work, "it was one of the toughest dishes I've made."
Paul Plevritis of New Hartford Wal-Mart for his Lamb with Tzatziki Sauce. "He makes the best leg of roast lamb," his wife, Tina, piped up.
Jeff Zoller of Northwest Mutual Insurance for his Banana Foster -- fresh bananas dunked in a special syrup and served with ice cream.
Since 1992, Gourmet Guys has generated over $355,000 to aid the homeless and needy.
