More than 300 Run in Ugly Sweaters to Support the Rescue Mission of Utica 12-8-19

December 8, 2019

Ugly Sweater 5K held in very cold conditions to raise money for Rescue Mission of Utica.

New York Mills, N.Y. – The 3rd annual Ugly Sweater 5K in New York Mills had a large turnout, all to raise money for the Rescue Mission of Utica.

Race Co-Director Michelle Samoraj says the pure holiday joy of wearing an ugly sweater, coupled with getting some exercize during this cold weather, has become a great combination, “This time of year when everybody is so cold, we thought with the ugly sweater, everybody’s just having fun throwing on sweaters that a lot of people really value, and so a lot of people donate sweaters, a lot of people bring hats and mittens and toiletry items that we donate to the Rescue Mission, plus a portion of the proceeds also goes to the Rescue Mission.”

It was quite a cold run, but Gene Allen of Utica says it really isn’t too bad at 28 degrees with very little wind, “It’s a balmy 28. Not too bad no not at all. This is great once you get running, you’re up to 40.”

No word on just how much money was raised on Sunday.
