It was all hands on deck on Tuesday as the Utica Rescue Mission prepares for one of their biggest days of the year.

UTICA, N.Y.— It was all hands on deck on Tuesday as the Utica Rescue Mission prepares for one of their biggest days of the year.

The Rescue Mission plans to serve over 1,000 meals on Christmas day. Management with the Rescue Mission tells NEWSChannel2 that they could not have done it without their dedicated volunteers and the support from the community.

Food Service Director Lucas Richmond said that they have been preparing for this day for just over a month. They have been collecting donations from the community and gathering items themselves all for the Christmas Day feast.

On Christmas Eve, volunteers were preparing the meals, as well as the nearly 1,000 pieces of pie for dessert.

“We are getting the pies ready to go. We tray them up ahead of time and wrap them because there is just not enough time on the actual day. We will roughly have a little over a thousand pies ready for tomorrow. It means everything for us that we can be here for the community. Anyone that needs a meal or just a little hope, that’s what we are here for,” said Richmond.

Mass begins at the Rescue Mission on Christmas Day starting at 11am. Dinner service begins right after.
