UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — This is the second year employees from CREE Inc. have come to the Utica Rescue Mission to donate turkeys for the holidays.
“We haven’t been able to do quite as many community outreach events as we would’ve liked but we really wanted to keep this as tradition.” – Rex Felton, Vice President of Operations, CREE Inc.
A tradition rex says they will continue for years to come. In total, CREE was able to donate 200 frozen turkeys.
“Our company has committed very high levels of you know investing in the community and we’re creating great relationship here between CREE the City of Utica and the state of New York.” – Rex Felton, Vice President of Operations, CREE Inc.
The holidays are always difficult for families struggling financially and the pandemic has made things harder than ever. Because of this, the Rescue Mission of Utica says they’ve had a lot more people in need.
“The need has increased tremendously because there’s so many people out of work and then experiencing this crisis that we’re in. We see more and more new people in our lines to get food and to come for dinners and to utilize our clothing closet distribution and things of that nature.” – Susan Woods, Director of Development and Communication, Rescue Mission of Utica
Fortunately, with help from companies like CREE, they’ve been able to keep up with the community’s demand, but Susan says they’re always in need of more help.
“Yes, donations are needed. You can go to uticamission.org to make a financial donation or also call us at 735-1645 ex 2104.” – Susan Woods, Director of Development and Communication, Rescue Mission of Utica
The turkeys will be distributed on Monday, November 23rd at 1 p.m. at 201 Rutger St, Utica, NY 13501.
