Rescue Mission of Utica officially opened its new Community Resource Room (CRR) on Monday, December 22, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at its Community Services location at 1013 West Street in Utica. The event brought together Rescue Mission leadership, staff, community partners, and supporters for remarks, the ceremonial ribbon cutting, and tours of the new space.
The Community Resource Room was made possible through funding from the New York State Office of Faith and Non Profit Development Services and was created to address a critical need in the community: access to technology and guidance navigating essential online services.
For many individuals and families facing housing instability, unemployment, or financial hardship, the lack of reliable internet access, devices, or digital skills can create significant barriers. As more services move online, everyday tasks such as applying for jobs, securing housing, enrolling in benefits, accessing healthcare, or pursuing education can feel overwhelming or out of reach.
The new Community Resource Room provides free access to computers, Wi-Fi, and audio/video equipment, along with one-on-one assistance for individuals who need help using technology. Guests can receive support with job searches and online applications, housing searches, college enrollment and high school equivalency programs, health insurance enrollment and telehealth visits, and learning basic digital skills such as email use and completing online forms.

The Community Resource Room is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is located at the Rescue Mission’s Community Services entrance on West Street, with parking available off Miller Street. All services are free and available to community members who need help accessing or using technology.
The opening of the Community Resource Room marks another milestone in Rescue Mission of Utica’s long-standing commitment to serving individuals and families in crisis throughout the Mohawk Valley. By expanding access to technology and personalized support, the Mission continues to help neighbors overcome systemic barriers and move toward stability and independence.
