Negative temperatures are headed our way this week. New York State has a “Cold Blue” Executive Order for when temperatures reach 32 degrees or below, the counties are required to help those without shelter.

“We work with a lot of agencies to try to fast track individuals to get to another location so that we can open up beds.”— Ernie Talerico, Director of Operations
The shelter can house up to 59 males.
“So we do whatever we can. whether its place someone on a cot for the night, we can do that as well. in certain area of the building we do that. So we don’t want anybody left out there in the cold.”

The shelter was approved for COVID-19 in the shelter by the state.

“We have disinfecting machines where we disinfect morning and night. we also take temperatures of all the residents in the morning and at night. we monitor for symptoms. any symptoms or signs of someone coming in that may feel ill, we will get them out of population, we will get them tested. The county works great with us with that.” —Talerico

Barriers have been put up over the beds. Social distancing and face masks are required in common areas and sanitizing stations have been put up.
