ONEIDA COUNTY — For the volunteers at the Rome and Utica Rescue Missions, Christmas Day is all about giving back by helping those in need in our community.
As the big day finally arrives, directors in both Rome and Utica reflect on the number of donations and how grateful they are for a generous community.
“I’m really blessed this year, we’ve been able to help over 1100 children with Christmas presents which is a really big deal for us. Because it’s not necessarily the gift of the toy, its the gift of the season,” said Rome Rescue Mission Director Matt Miller.
In Utica, the kitchen was bustling as volunteers served a packed dining room.
“Today we will probably be doing between 800 to 900 meals. If it wasn’t for the community, the Rescue Mission wouldn’t be here. If it wasn’t for all of the donations, time, money, time, supplies, and food, we couldn’t do this,” said Utica Rescue Mission Director Wendy Goez.
Both Rescue Missions would like to thank the volunteers for dedicating their time.
In both Rome and Utica, church services were offered throughout the day.
Clothing and toy donations were also given out at the Utica Rescue Mission.
