UTICA— With a winter crispness in the air, it’s time for a brisk 5K run or walk along the Erie Canal Trail at the second annual Utica Ugly Sweater 5K.
The event will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at 16 Harbor Lock Road, adjacent to the parking lot at Aqua Vino Restaurant, followed by a fun and festive after-race party.
All race participants will receive a custom winter beanie and a jingle bell bracelet that will add to the spirit and sound of this year’s event. All finishers also receive an Ugly Sweater 5K medal that doubles as an ornament.
The post race event will include a free beer and free food offering for the runners at Aqua Vino Restaurant. The bar/kitchen will be open for family and friends of the runners.
There will be awards for overall winners both male and female and also age group awards. All runners are encouraged to wear their favorite ugly sweater. Prizes will be awarded for “Best in Dress,” “Most Creative” and “Most Unique.” Vintage ugly sweaters will be available for a $10 purchase at packet pickup events and race day.
A portion of the proceeds and all donations will benefit the Rescue Mission. Race participants and race watchers are welcome to bring winter clothing donations to the race. Items in need include winter outerwear such as hats, coats, gloves, boots, socks, sneakers, and also personal care products.
There is a $40 sign up fee to run in the event.
